Provençal Markets

This charming Provençal fishing port, nestled on the French Riviera, is a paradise for lovers of authentic markets. Here, the air is fragrant with oregano and thyme, the stalls overflow with fresh local produce, and the traditional fishing boats, known as "pointus," gently bob in the water. Voted "the most beautiful market in France" in 2018 by TF1 viewers, the region abounds with gastronomic gems, all accessible in under 45 minutes by car. Whether you're looking for freshly caught fish, goats' cheese with honey, or colorful handicrafts, these markets embody the soul of Provence.

Le Grand Marché Sanary's weekly market : A Local Gem

Just a stone's throw from your home from home, this weekly market is the beating heart of Sanary. Every Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., along the port and under the plane trees of the Allées d'Estienne d'Orves, more than 300 stalls come alive with an explosion of color. Fresh fruits and vegetables, bursting with Mediterranean sunshine, iridescent fish straight from the nets, Corsican charcuterie, olives from the Gapeau and Beaux-Vallées valleys, savons de Marseille, Bandol wines, souvenirs, clothing, household gadgets—everything you could dream of—and much more! Don't miss the specialties like homemade tapenade or the reimagined calissons of Aix. It's a true feast for the senses: the cries of seagulls mingle with those of the vendors. Voted the most beautiful market in France, it richly deserves its place of honor—and a visit!

This daily market takes place every morning at the port from 8 am to 1 pm. With its colorful stalls overflowing with fresh produce and its lively atmosphere, it's a daily stop off spot for locals. Less grand than its larger counterpart on Wednesdays, it boasts around forty stalls but shines with its authenticity. Fishmongers sell the night's catch—scorpionfish, red mullet, sea bream—; cheesemakers offer their raw milk tomme cheeses; and honey producers from the Var hills are there too. Add some vibrant flowers and aromatic herbs to flavor your homemade bouillabaisse. Ideal for a quick shopping trip, it captures the essence of Provence without any fuss.
